A survey of some recent college graduates
was conducted about some of the concerns they face in moving into their new
careers. Here are the results:
During pre-employment training, most
Fresh Graduate participants have certain fears about how they would behave if
certain situations arise, in other words, they question whether their skills
would be up to the level required or if they even would have the skills to deal
with those situations at all. A group of
Fresh Graduates’ participants and the trainers that work with them were asked
about those concerns. Below are the some
of the common concerns they mentioned.
· Building
Trust and Human Relations
How do I build trust with
colleagues? How do I show that I am
trust worthy?
How do I choose the right people to work
with?
I need to be able to specify who to deal
with and who to avoid?
· Interviews
How do I land an interview?
How do I find out about companies out
there?
How do I use my strengths as a person to
sell my self better?
How do I use that strength to my benefit
at work?
How do I choose the right company? The
right environment? The right colleagues?
What do I do if the interviewer is
aggressive?
How do I show my uniqueness?
How do I remain confident during an
interview?
· Resolving
Conflict
How do I deal with my manager if he is
complaining about me?
How do I deal if a colleague is
complaining about me to the big boss?
How do I deal when my manager has a
complaint about a certain issue (in another department) and he expects me to
resolve it for him?
How do I deal with a frustrated customer
when he/she is complaining?
· Emotional
Intelligence
How do I deal with my anger when I am
frustrated? How do I develop the
self-discipline required to deal with difficult situations I encounter?
How do keep motivating myself to go to
work everyday when I am unhappy?
How do I deal with lack of appreciation
from the people around me at work?
· Team work
How do I prepare a project to deal with
the planning, the deadlines, the people in it?
What if someone is not cooperating? What
if someone is not carrying their weight?
What if I don’t like the way the team is
working?

in the right direction?
· Dealing with
Customers
How do I identify the right opportunity
and use it to win over client?
How do I resolve a complaint when the
client is right yet I have to defend the company?
How do I sell the company or the product
when I am not convinced about it?
If I know that a product is not good
enough, what do I tell the customer?
· Written
Communication
How do I write a proper email, proposal,
or reports?
How do I get to know the most common
business terminology so I can use it and avoid embarrassment if someone is
using it in front of me and I don’t understand?
How do I write my CV so it stands out
from the rest of the CVs?
· Confidence
How do I build up my self-confidence
before an interview?
How do I build the confidence to deal
with a client and a boss?
Those are only some of the concerns they
have. Often, participants talk about
three major players: the interviewer, the boss, and the customer/client,
especially when they are frustrated or difficult to deal with by “nature”.
The forth yet most important player is
how to deal with “myself”. Participants
usually are more concerned about themselves and their survival more than paying
attention to what happens around them, the results required, or the relations
that needs building. (Mission is
“Protect Me”).
When facilitating you might find that
some participants indeed have concerns that they would like to know how to deal
with in the future. On the other hand,
they might not be able to come up or articulate a specific scenario of how they
would use the tools discussed in our programs to remedy some of those concerns
(because of the lack of opportunities to apply in a professional). In this case, we need to use a lot of
scenario questions so the discussion is closer to reality than merely theory. Once the scenario is well understood have
participants role play it so you can coach and respond.
The above questions is useful in
creating some specific scenarios that address some of the in each
question: Below is The 16 weeks Certificate
